The Story Behind Every Felt Craft – A Journey of Hope, Love & Empowerment

In many parts of Nepal, women have grown up in a society where men make most decisions, where young girls are married off too early, and where education and opportunities are often reserved for sons. For years, many women had no choice but to stay at home, doing household work silently, and depend on their husbands for even their basic needs.

Most of these women are strong and capable—but they were never given the chance to prove it.

At Sagarmatha Felt Creation, we saw this reality and decided to change it in our small way.

We are a husband and wife team running the Felt company, Sagarmatha Felt Creation, who chose to stay in Nepal—not to leave for jobs abroad like many others, but to build something meaningful here at home. While countless Nepali youths continue to fly overseas in search of better income and opportunity, we believed we could create something impactful right where we are—with our people, for our people.

We started by reaching out to women in our own locality—mothers, sisters, and daughters who had dreams but no direction. Many of them had little to no formal education. Some had never worked outside their homes. Others were working in jobs far away, walking long hours for low pay, often leaving their children behind.

We believed they deserved better.

That’s why we built a workspace where they could learn, grow, and earn—with dignity and comfort. We trained them in the beautiful, age-old craft of felting—making woolen products by hand with love and care.

And the best part? They didn’t even need to leave their homes.

We provide sample pieces and raw materials, which they can take home and work on at their own pace. This way, they can take care of their babies, cook for their families, and still earn a decent income. It gives them freedom, flexibility, and self-respect.

Every felt item we produce—whether it’s a Christmas ornament, a keychain, or a home decor piece—is more than just a product. It carries the story of a woman who is finally able to do something on her own, send her children to school, walk with pride, not have to ask money for their basic needs or things she wants to eat or spend on, and have plenty of savings for the future.

These women are now skilled artisans. They are paid fairly, respected for their work, and appreciated by buyers around the world. They are no longer silent—they are independent and confident.

At Sagarmatha Felt Creation, we don’t just make crafts.
We craft lives, hope, and a better tomorrow.
