The Spark Behind Sagarmatha
Sagarmatha Felt Creation was founded in the year 2070 B.S (Nepali Calendar)/ 2013 A.D, by husband-and-wife team of Geeta Pokhrel and Rahul Jaiswal, both long-time workers in Nepal's handicraft sector. Like many in their industry, they watched talented women artisans juggle demanding factory schedules with the full weight of domestic life. It was a cycle that affected thousands of women across Kathmandu.
With a shared vision of empowering women they built a community-centered felt manufacturing workshop where local women could earn dignified, fair wages without sacrificing their presence at home. A supportive workplace where women artisans walk into a space filled with color, conversation, and mutual support not a clock-in production line. Today, Sagarmatha Felt Creation employs over 300 skilled women artisans and supplies handmade felt products to retailers, gift brands, and wholesalers across the world.
A Movement for Women’s Empowerment
In traditional Nepali society, women have historically faced systemic barriers to financial independence. At Sagarmatha, we're working to change that, one felt product at a time.
Our craftswomen earn fair wages that allow them to make real household decisions, funding their children's education, covering medical expenses, and building savings of their own. By working flexibly either from our workshop in Kageshori Manohara or from their homes, our artisans don't have to choose between their craft and their families.
